Premiers and performances of works by Cangelosi, Kolm, Didkovsky, Golijov and more.
The Holland/Weissman Duo was formed in 2012 to perform and commission works for contemporary cello and percussion duets. Members Liz Holland (Master of Music, University at Buffalo) and Katie Weissman (Bachelor of Music, Boston University) have brought their program from concert halls to coffee shops and frequently perform educational programs for school-aged children.
Currently, the duo is working on a program called "Women in Music" which promotes young female composers and performers.
Liz holds a Masters of Music Performance from the University at Buffalo. She has studied with Tom Kolor and Michael Burritt. Her interests in percussion are wide ranging, but she has a special interest in ethnic and contemporary percussion.
Katie holds a Bachelors in Music from Boston University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She has studied with Michael Reynolds, Amanda Truelove, Roman Mekinulov and Feng Hew. She also records regularly for many projects as a house cellist in the Buffalo area.
We are very excited to announce the premiers of our Women in Music program. In June 2013, we contacted five talented young female composers. Four of them wrote works specifically for us. We premiered these pieces on October 24th at Pausa Art House in Buffalo, NY.
The composers that have written for us in this program include Jennifer Bellor, Jenece Gerber, Haley Shaw and Darlene Chepil Reid. Additionally, we are performing a piece previously written by Tonia Ko. The pieces range anywhere from jazz inspired, to middle eastern, electronic minimalism and mathematically based contemporary composition.
Over the coming months, we will be touring these pieces around the country and performing an educational Women in Music program for school aged children. If you are interested in bringing this program to your venue or school, please get in touch.
